FRANKLINTON, NC--James Braxton Montague, age 79, Franklinton died Sunday, April 2, 2023.

James was born in Franklin County, on December 23, 1943 to the late Evangeline Montague.

Survivors: one sister, Mary Frances Cummings (Willie) of Boston, MA; one daughter, Lakira Mclean of Newark, NJ; one son, Shkise Braxton Barber; one step-daughter, Jennifer Cooke of Franklinton; two step-sons, Samuel Cooke Jr. of Greensboro and Curtis Cooke Sr. of Kinston; one grandson; twelve step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren; one aunt; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were 1 p.m., Monday, April 10 at Cutchins Family Mortuary & Cremations Chapel in Franklinton. Rev. Mattie Crudup officiated. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
