LOUISBURG, NC -- Donald Lee Gupton, 81, of Louisburg died Friday night, June 24, 2023 at home.

Donald was a son of the late Earlie Buck and Ada Ruth Boyd Gupton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Desiree Leigh Harper of Florida and brother, Clyde Boyd Gupton of Louisburg.

Donald is survived by his loving friend of 42 years, Alma Ray Hudson; son Donald "Bucky" Gupton; grandson Christopher Mathew Harper of Florida; sisters Shelby Jean Wrenn of Louisburg, and Peggy Gupton Upchurch of Lake Wylie, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Gold Sand HS, Donald served four years in the Air Force, then joined the Raleigh Police Department. He later resigned to start his own trucking company. Donald was a quiet man who was content with hard work and tinkering on all things mechanical with his son, Bucky. He chuckled at their "Sanford and Son" relationship. The deep bond between him and his three siblings was for a lifetime. Whether hearing exaggerated tales of misdeeds, being relentlessly chased by his two sisters, or enduring his older brother's chiding, Donald's quiet grin reflected the love they shared. Alma and her three daughters Angela, Rhonda, Wendy, and their children, who thought of him as a grandad, provided the family that rounded out his life. It was more than enough to keep a simple man happy.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, at Maple Springs Baptist Church. The family received friends following the service.
