Lucille Carolyn Mitchell Gooch
Wilton, NC--Lucille Carolyn Mitchell Gooch, 90, of Wilton passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024, at her home surrounded by her children. Mrs. Gooch was the co-owner and operator of Gooch's Grocery, where she worked side by side with her husband, Harold Winston Gooch, for more than thirty-five years and was later joined by their son, Eddie Harold Gooch. After retiring from the store life, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was the heart of her family. From her children's and grandchildren's earliest years, she taught them about the love of God. While growing up, her children's mornings began with sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast together, taking turns reading chapters from the Bible and saying their prayers. As her children grew up and her grandchildren were born, everyone looked forward to Sunday lunch at Grannie's after coming home from church. She was a faithful servant and member of Mount Carmel Christian Church. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 10-11:45 a.m. at Mount Carmel Christian Church. Mrs. Gooch is survived by a daughter, Gail Gooch Bullock and her husband Allen; a son, Eddie Harold Gooch and his wife Dawn; four grandchildren, Jared Bullock (Sarah), Joshua Bullock, Justin Bullock and Rusty Gooch and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Harold Winston Gooch; a son, Jerry Wayne Gooch and a brother, Harold Lee Mitchell. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 12 p.m. at Mount Carmel Christian Church with the Rev. Don Owen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank Mrs. Gooch's caregivers, Ms. Dorothy Brodie and Ms. Ruby Hesler for the kindness and love shown to Lucille. Omission of flowers is requested, and memorials may be made to Mount Carmel Christian Church, c/o Karen Blackley, Treasurer, 3165 Tom Hunt Rd., Oxford, NC 27565.
