HENDERSON - Marie Whetstone Woodard Williams, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Maria Parham Medical Center. A graveside service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at New Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Carol Dean.

Born in Keysville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ira Whetstone and Annie Laura Murphy Whetstone.

Surviving: three daughters, Martha W. Rowland of Kittrell, Rose W. Marshall of Greensboro, and Matilda W. Hughes of Henderson; two sons, James R. Woodard of Morehead City and William C. Woodard of Jamestown; one sister, Jane W. Cornish of Kittrell; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Woodard and Woodrow Williams.
