THOMAS V. POOLE


RALEIGH - Thomas Vincent “Tom” Poole, 88, died Friday, May 23, 2008 at his home. A graveside service was conducted Tuesday, May 27, at Massey-Poole Cemetery in Pilot, with military honors. Also, a celebration of his life was conducted Tuesday, May 27, at First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh.

Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Garland Luther Poole and Bessie Greene Poole. He was the State Director of North Carolina for the Federal Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program of the U.S. Dept. of Labor for 17 years preceding his retirement from public service. During WWII, he served his country in the Navy for more than five years and was decorated for bravery in the battle of the Philippines.

Surviving: his wife, Ruby Burnette Poole; sons, Vincent Winfield Poole and Thomas Scott Poole (Debra); sister, Bess Poole Hart of Ashburn, Va.; brother, Charles Poole of Wendell; and two grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Milton, Doret and Chadwick; sisters, Maxine, Mildred, Carolina, Hortense and Phyllis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church New Building Fund, 120 West Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.
