VIRGIE MAE HALSTEAD


ARDMORE, Okla. - Virgie Mae Halstead, 73, died Friday, May 23, 2008, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 27, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Chapel in Ardmore, with Pastor Jonathan Blose officiating. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was born in Louisburg, the daughter of the late Eugene H. Colbert and Geneva Patterson Colbert. She was owner and operator of Virgie’s 12th St. Lounge the past 48 years. She attended Northwest Baptist Church of Ardmore and was known to extend her heart and home to many people. Among many things, she loved her family and flowers.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Arnold Milton Halstead, and a brother, Malcolm Colbert.

Surviving: two sons, Gary Halstead of Tulsa, Okla., Kenneth Halstead and wife, Jeanie of Yukon; three grandchildren, Scott and Brian Ketchum and James Letterman; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Layton and husband, Jim of Spring Hope; brothers, Henry Colbert and wife, Frances of Spring Hope, and Furman Colbert and wife, Kaye of Raleigh; numerous nieces and nephews; and close personal friends of the family, Buddy Lewis McClaine and Radona Gorley.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 26, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Chapel.
