WERNER MUNZENMAYER


YOUNGSVILLE - Werner Karl Munzenmayer, 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at Wake Med.

A celebration of his life will be conducted from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at the home of his son, Bernd, at 45 Jackson Road, Youngsville.

He was born in Hamburg, Germany. He and his family immigrated to the U.S. in 1949 and became U.S. citizens in 1955. He trained as a pastry chef prior to WWII. He participated in WWII and was severely wounded. After a lengthy recuperation, he became a Master Pastry Chef, and at one time owned a pastry shop in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Surviving: his wife, Gerda; daughter, Helga Vick (Donald) of Raleigh; son, Bernd Munzenmayer (Karolina) of Youngsville; sister, Inga Cummins of San Mateo, Calif.; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
