PILOT - Avis J. Seymour, 86, of Pilot died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at Pilot Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 10, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell.

Avis was the daughter of the late Bud and Maggie Tant Jeans. She graduated from Bunn High School in 1940. She worked with her late husband, Douglas Seymour, on the family farm and at Westinghouse in Raleigh until their retirement.

Surviving: son, Glenn Seymour of Raleigh; daughter, Diane Ray of Pilot; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Seymour; her sisters, Adele Jones and Stella Perry; her brothers Coy Jeans and Algie Jeans; her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Denton.
