LOUISBURG -- Franklin County will soon have a new emergency services director.Hendrix Valenzuela will assume the job on Dec. 14, according to Franklin County Manager Kim Denton, who made the announcement last week.Valenzuela comes to Franklin County from Cumberland County where he served as that county's emergency management program coordinator.

2.County's EMS director resigns, officials mum
LOUISBURG -- Franklin County's Emergency Services Director Hendrix Valenzuela resigned abruptly, this week.County Manager Kim Denton said mechanisms are in place to navigate the department until a permanent replacement is named."Moving forward, we already have a reporting structure [in place]," Denton said, noting that Emergency Medical Director Jim Gusler will fill Valenzuela's post on an interim basis.

5.New fire marshal is hired by county
LOUISBURG -- Franklin County has tabbed a new fire marshal.Arthur Lee Evans III (Trey) will assume those duties beginning April 19."We are excited to have the position of the county fire marshal filled," said Emergency Services Director Hendrix Valenzuela. "Evans brings a lot of attributes and qualities that align well with the overall mission and services provided by the Office of Emergency Services."

6.Deer blamed for mishap
A sheriff’s corporal and volunteer firefighter escaped serious injury following a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning.According to a report by Louisburg Officer Ian Battle, Ryan Hendrix was driving his personal vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, on West River Road at about 5:40 a.m. when he approached a curve.Hendrix told authorities that he swerved to miss four or five deer, causing him to run off the road.

8.Giving blood becomes Christmas tradition
Forrest Plyler and Teresa Hendrix could very well have begun a new Christmas tradition. The mother and son went to the Senior Center in Louisburg with the intent this holiday season to give the gift of life. And while Hendrix was not able to give blood during the visit on Wednesday, she was there to see her second oldest child, Plyler, give blood for the first time.

9.Medical director slams EMS operation, county manager

11.Man dies in car wreck
A Louisburg man was killed Wednesday morning after a pick-up truck he was driving struck a tree. According to a report by Trooper B.D. Vick, Larry Gragg Hendrix, 56, of 3526 N.C. Highway 581, was traveling south on Timberlake Road when the 2005 GMC truck he was driving crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road.

LOUISBURG -- The Delta variant, low vaccination numbers and mask-less folks continue to raise the county's COVID-19 cases.As of press time, there were 8,113 total reported cases and 55 deaths attributed to COVID-19 during the history of the pandemic. ROCKY MOUNT - When Nash Central traveled to Louisburg last Wednesday, the weather was so cold and windy that the teams agreed to suspend play after singles competition -- and with the visiting Bulldogs already clinching the team victory by a 5-1 score.Conditions were much more favorable for Monday's rematch at the NCHS Courts, but the result was still the same.Nash Central took four of the six singles matches and swept the doubles on its way to defeating the Warriors by a 7-2 margin in non-conference boys tennis action.

I am so excited about this news that I want to share it with all of you. Normally the bad news makes the TV and the newspapers, but I feel that the good news can be as exciting as the bad news. Besides, the bad news leaves you in a depressed mood, while the good news lifts your spirits. As you know, Chile has a woman president, Michelle Bachelet, who for the most part has made good decisions for the betterment of the people of that country. One of her latest interventions has been the passing of a law that would have been almost impossible some years back.

Even with a camouflage shirt, Thomas King couldn’t fade into the background. During a fund raiser in his honor, the little tyke needing a bowel transplant was the center of attention at the Farmer’s Foods parking lot on Saturday. King, who turned one on Wednesday, suffers from total colonic “Hirschprungs Disease” a rare malady that prevents his intestines from absorbing the nutrients he needs to stay alive.

37.Louisburg College holds a service of peace with justice
On Tuesday Sept. 20, faculty, staff and students of Louisburg College (LC) gathered at Benson Chapel to reflect on “Peacemaking” and what they can do to find peace. President La Branche  prepared a sermon which emphasized how important it is to find peace since we cannot remove conflict from our nation and the nations of the world.  As we seek peace- making, we must remember that it is not denial of conflict, La Branche said.

LOUISBURG -- John Meeks’ return to campus will headline the card at this weekend’s action at the Louisburg Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament, which will be hosted by Louisburg College at Taylor Center. Meeks is LC’s former coach who resigned after leading the Hurricanes to the Region X Tournament Championship and a spot in the NJCAA Division II National Tourney in 2010.
