RALEIGH - Daryl F. Shaffer, age 95, died May 26, 2017 at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh.
Daryl was born on Oct. 22, 1921, in Illinois, the son of A. Edward and Dora York Shaffer. A scholar, athlete, and graduate of Milton High School, he worked for Shell Oil in Alton, IL. He reported for service two days before his 21st birthday in 1942 and served in WWII. He later pursued a civil service career with the U.S. Government working in administration before retiring in 1985.
Surviving: daughters Nancy Shaffer (Mel Graben) of Cary (Nancy is formerly of Louisburg); Janet Shaffer (Peter D. Leonard) of Winston-Salem); and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and five siblings.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community, 1500 Sawmill Rd., Raleigh. Memorial contributions may be made to the Springmoor Endowment Fund. |
