“This Ain’t Your Momma’s Bluegrass” concert series begins March 17
The first in what is planned as a series of at least four concerts called “This Ain’t Your Momma’s Bluegrass” is slated for March 17 in Louisburg.

Deputies seize drugs
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are trying to find the culprits in a fight that one victim said may have involved as many as 30 people.
According to a report by Dep. Keith Jones, he was dispatched during the early morning hours of Feb. 25 to Franklin Regional Medical Center  where a man was being treated for injuries sustained in a fight in the White Level community.

Their daughter, Carmell Williams of Knightdale, and sons, Randy and Todd, both of Zebulon, hosted the occasion with family and friends. The couple was married in Pilot on Feb. 15, 1947.

Allen and Jessica Chesser of Louisburg are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Adelyn Claire Chesser, born Jan. 13, 2012 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Robin Maynard of Pilot and Robbie Bowen of Plymouth.

Megan Scott Champion of Huntersville was named to the Chancellor’s List for the Fall 2011 semester at East Carolina University in Greenville. In order to be on the Chancellor’s List, one must have all A’s.

Certainly, BHS prefers to press and play a full-court style -- a strategy that head coach Chuck Mann isn’t about to apologize for.

‘Canes Explode For Sweep
LOUISBURG -- The hits just keep coming for the Louisburg College baseball squad -- on and off the field.
Before the campaign, LC was ranked 38th in the country by the Perfect Game diamond website.
The number, however, has grown along with the Hurricanes’ undefeated winning streak.
And thanks in part to a four-game home sweep last weekend against Anne Arundel Community College from Maryland, the Hurricanes have shot all the way up to a No. 5 national ranking.

LC wins fast-pitch contests
ALBEMARLE -- Louisburg College’s softball squad improved to 3-1 on the campaign with a key doubleheader sweep Sunday on the road against Stanly Community College.
Scores were 5-2 in the first game and 7-6 in the nightcap in Louisburg College’s favor.
Sophomore veteran Jamie Hockaday went the distance in the opener for LC, allowing just two runs, four hits and zero walks while striking out four.

Lady Hurricanes near region title
LOUISBURG -- Maybe it’s a formality, but Louisburg College still has a bit of business to take care of in the Region X women’s basketball standings.
The Lady Hurricanes are currently undefeated in the league and have yet to be threatened -- but they needed a home victory Tuesday against Wake Tech Community College in order to clinch the championship.

It’s now up to Don Stopa to take that next step toward a possible Region X Championship.
For all of Gordy’s successes during her stint at Louisburg, taking a region title proved to be an elusive proposition, thanks in part to the recent league dominance of backyard rival Pitt Community College.

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers visited Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg on Thursday. Her visit was not announced in advance. This was Ellmers’ first visit to the facility and it included a presentation, question-and-answer session, and tour. Much of the discussion was focused on Franklin Regional’s community impact, including $4.4 million of free care given in 2010, as well as $6.5 million in unreimbursed Medicare costs.

Property owners frustrated with revaluation
There are 500 neighborhoods in Franklin County and those residents began receiving their revaluation notices this past week.
For a lot of those residents, those bills should have come with an antacid, as, in some cases, they say their new tax value exceeds market value.
