HALLIE S. THARRINGTON
LOUISBURG – Hallie Smith Tharrington, beloved Mother, Grandmother and “Meme”, 95, departed to her heavenly home Monday evening at her home.

She was born in Louisburg in her beloved Franklin County on September 13, 1914. She was a daughter of the late Noel and Alice Smith. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.C. Tharrington; sisters, Emma Debnam and Bessie Lancaster; brothers, Ernest Smith, J.T. Smith, Jesse Willard Smith, Joseph Eugene Smith, Charlie John Smith and Noel Bennett Smith.

A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Corinth Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Fern Riggs and husband John of High Point; sons, Joe Tharrington and wife Linda of Louisburg, Fred Tharrington of Raleigh and Harold Tharrington and wife Carolyn of Smithfield; 8 grandchildren, Beth Batchelor (Bob) of Charlotte, Rebecca Lockhart (Jeff) of Raleigh, Donna Schuster (Jeff) of Raleigh, Vicki Jones (Scott) of Charlotte, Cary Tharrington (Nicole) of Charlotte, Jennifer Sherrill (Joe) of Louisburg, Adam Tharrington of Raleigh and Mary Tharrington of  Laurinburg; 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Roberts of Charlotte, and brother, Milton Smith of Louisburg.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, c/o Dr. Michael Blackwell, President, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361.

The family wishes to thank her son, Joe Tharrington, and his family for the loving and devoted care they provided for Mother.

The family will receive friends 7 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home, Louisburg.
