DONALD G. BIRK
FRANKLINTON —Donald Gordon Birk, 80, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Duke University Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh. A private cremation service was held at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Franklinton. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., to Gordon and Edith (Pratt) Birk. He grew up in Dearborn, Mich., and graduated from Fordson High School. He was employed for 20 years with Michigan Mutual Insurance Company and also the CSX Railroad until he retired in 1992.

Surviving: wife, Betty Heid Birk; brother, Larry Birk; a sister, Norma Commons; his children, Alan Birk, Douglas Birk, Martin Birk, Janine French, Laura Rector and Glen Birk; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Birk; a son, David Birk; and one grandson.
