ODESSA S. SMITH
GASTONIA - Odessa Strickland Smith, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010. Funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 24, at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, with Pastor Jim DuMond officiating. Burial was at Daniels Lutheran Church cemetery.

She was born in Nash County to the late Burgess and Annie Strickland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Q. Smith Sr.; sisters, Cramer Crater, Pauline Bobbitt; brothers, Alton Strickland, Herbert Strickland, Marvin Strickland, Bobby Lee Strickland.

Surviving: sons, Dewey Smith (Sandy) of Belmont, Hugh Smith Jr. (Linda) of Gastonia; daughters, Priscilla Wise (Howard) of Lincolnton, Mary Huss of Lincolnton; brother, Carvin Strickland (Janie) of Bunn Lake; sisters, Leigh Robinson of Del Mar, Calif., Mildred Leonard (Julian) of Rocky Cross, Margaret Ann Williams (Norwood) of Pilot; seven grandchildren; and  six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in the deceased’s name to The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer Building Fund, 1915 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054 and/or Daniels Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3107 Reepsville Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or Donor’s Choice.
