FRED “POGO” STEPHENSON
RALEIGH - Fred “Pogo” Stephenson, 70, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at Rex Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 3, at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, Raleigh. Burial followed at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

He was born in Johnston County, the son of the late Carey Hunter Stephenson and Lucy Capps Stephenson. He joined the NC National Guard in 1960, retiring in June of 1987. He had a long career in the fire service, serving with several volunteer fire departments.

Surviving: wife, Susanne of the home; son, William Hughes Stephenson (Denise) of Raleigh; stepson, Braxton Overby Jr. of Youngsville; sisters, Sandra Duncan (Bill) of Raleigh and Joan Marshall (Thomas) of Mebane; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bay Leaf VFD Fireman’s Fund, 11713 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27614.
