RALEIGH - Betty Batchelor Oakley, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at Wake Med. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3800 Hillcrest Drive, Raleigh. Burial will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 ACC Blvd., Raleigh.

She was born in Franklin County to the late William Earl Batchelor and Annie Harriet Williams Batchelor. She graduated from Bunn High School in 1951 and worked for the N.C. Cotton Promotion.

Surviving: husband, Jackson Dean Oakley; son, David Brent Oakley of the home; daughter, Donna Marie Oakley of the home; brother, Robert Batchelor of Wendell; sisters, Mildred West of Garner, Annette Boykin of Zebulon, Lacy Smith of Wendell; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wallace Batchelor and Edward Batchelor.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 19) at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3800 Hillcrest Drive, Raleigh, NC 27610.
