ROY LEE TURNER
CARY - Roy Lee Turner, the last surviving son of the late Walter Lee and Sallie Matthews Turner, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 in Raleigh. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 3, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.

He was born in Skippers, Va. He spent his childhood in Johnston County. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean Conflict, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1953. He worked in Texas as a machinist for 28 years. He retired in 1993 and returned to North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his former wife and the mother of their four children, Shirley Faye Gresham, and by his siblings, Phyllis, Frank, Coy and Jack Turner.

Surviving: children, Debra Turner Ferrell of Franklinton, Tammie Turner Green (fiancĂ©, William Peoples) of Warrenton, Roy K. Turner (Carme) of Cary and Jeffrey L. Turner of Maryland; sisters, Gladys T. Faulkner, Addie T. Batton, Sally T. Posh, Peggy T. Chase (Doug), Linda T. Johnson, Elaine T. Barham (Julian) and Brenda T. Narron (Jerry); nine grandchildren; and  three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
