CROWELL P. STRICKLAND
April 22, 1924 to August 13, 2011
LOUISBURG - Crowell Perry Strickland, age 87, died on August 13, 2011. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Strickland was the son of Bennett Perry and Geneva Breedlove Strickland and was one of sixteen siblings. His home place, located near Bunn, NC, was built by his father of lumber harvested from the family farm. Mr. Strickland was a veteran of World War II. During the sixties, the now familiar chain auto parts stores had not yet become prevalent. Mr. Strickland saw an opportunity and opened his own store, eventually owning and operating three successful auto parts stores, located in Louisburg, Wake Forest and Creedmoor, as well as a warehouse in Charlotte.

Surviving Mr. Strickland are his children, Anne S. Clifton and husband, Van of Youngsville, Robert Strickland of Louisburg, Kimberly S. Bressler and husband, Matthew of York, SC, and Crystol Grimes of Portsmouth, NH; a sister, Vivian Gosnell of Lynchburg, VA; a brother, Kenneth Strickland of Clayton; two grandchildren, Jeremy Clifton and wife, Rachel of Chattanooga, TN and Philip Clifton of Tucker, GA; two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Christopher Clifton; and his best friend of over fifty years, John Beck.

The family will receive visitors at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory in Louisburg, from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, followed by the funeral service at noon and burial at Lancaster Memorial Park. At other times, the family will meet at the home of Anne and Van Clifton, 2333 Tarboro Rd., Youngsville.

The family is very appreciative of the compassionate and skilled care provided to Mr. Strickland by the VA Medical Center Hospice Unit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to that facility. (Durham VA Medical Center, Hospice Unit, 508 Fulton St., Durham, NC 27705-3875).
