RALEIGH - Sarah Elizabeth “Bettie” Cheatham Vogler, 85, died at home on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011. At Mrs. Vogler’s request, a private graveside service was to be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.

She was the only daughter of the late Edwin Joseph Cheatham and the late Ella Harris Cheatham.

She grew up in Franklinton. She left Franklinton to attend Salem College and later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English.

In addition to her parents and husband, James B. Vogler Jr., she was preceded in death by an older brother, Joseph Cheatham, and a younger brother, Pickney Harris Cheatham.

Surviving: children, Bettie Jo Vogler of Raleigh, James Brevard Vogler III (Sarah Linden) of Gainesville, Fla., Cynthia Gail Vogler of Cary and Robert Cheatham Vogler (Colleen) of Raleigh; and five grandchildren.
