CHARLES G. COLLINS, JR.
PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Charles Grover Collins, Jr., 80, of the 100 block of Maurice Avenue passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 in a Portsmouth hospital. He was a native of Hamlet, N.C. and was the husband of Flora R. Collins. He was a retired construction foreman, a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, and a member of Retreads Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his first wife, Betty Jo Abbott of Suffolk, Va.; three daughters, Joyce Sobey of Powhatan, Va., Cindy Foster of Buxton, Pam Larry of Portsmouth, Va.; three sons, Larry Leonard of Portsmouth, Va., W. Steven Collins of Poquoson, Va., and Charles T. Collins of Chesapeake, Va.; two cousins, Carl Collins of Rocky Mount, Maurice Collins of Tarboro; and one sister-in-law, Wordna Collins of Chesapeake, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. in the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial followed at 3 p.m. in the White Level Baptist Church Cemetery, White Level, N.C. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7-8 p.m.

The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church or to the American Lung Association.
