DORIS P. RAPER
ROCKY MOUNT—Doris Pearce Mullen Raper, 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at Hospice Home of Wake County. Services celebrating her life will be held at 1:45 p.m. today (Saturday, Feb. 16) at First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount,  with the Rev. Jim Alley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30-1:45 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 N. Dortches Blvd., immediately following the memorial service.

Born in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Ivey and Lillie Pearce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Pearce and Frederick Pearce, as well as her husband, Melvin Mullen, the father of her three children.

She worked on the family farm in Franklin County with her husband, Melvin Mullen, until his death. She was also employed at Westinghouse in Raleigh for 28 years.

Surviving: husband, Ashley Raper; sisters, Mary Hinnant of Wendell and Delores Chalk of Zebulon; brother, Phil Pearce of Raleigh; sons, Jackie Mullen (Judy) of Zebulon, Charles Mullen (Pam) of Rocky Mount, and Craig Mullen of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, CB #7295, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7295; Wake county Hospice Home, 200 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607; or First Baptist Church, 200 South Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
