YOUNGSVILLE —Joyce Johnston, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 in Raleigh after complications from a fall on Monday. Funeral services were held Friday, March 1, at Owens Funeral Service Chapel, Lebanon, Va., with the Rev. Duane Musick officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Tenn. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery.

She was born in Turtle Creek, W. Va., the daughter of the late Floyd Earnest Berry and Ida Mae Lester Berry. Her last 12 years were spent in the Raleigh area where she was known as the Dancin’ Granny of the Carolina Hurricanes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; sister, Eileen Ball; and brothers, Schubert, Lyndon, Jimmy and B. B. Perry.

Surviving: daughter, Sandy Yates (Burl) of Youngsville; son, Tom Johnston of Charleston, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and 31 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity, or to the Carolina Hurricanes’ Kids ‘N Community Foundation, 1400 Edwards Mill Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
