JOSEPH E. SMITH
September 16, 1923 – October 28, 2013
LOUISBURG – Joseph Earl Smith, 90, of Louisburg, died Monday evening (October 28).  Joe was a son of the late M. Coleman and Lula Hedgepeth Smith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn W. Langley; sister, Sybal S. Ball; brothers, Downey Smith and Egbert Smith.

Joe was a member of Hickory Rock Baptist Church since 1935; he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, choir member and on various church committees. He retired from the N.C. Forestry Service in 1988 after 35 years of service; he served as County Ranger for 25 years. After retirement, he was a forestry consultant with Forestry Management Specialist for several years.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mildred W. Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Mary Ann Woodlief; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Ann Smith; Wilton and Mary John Smith, all of Louisburg; grandchildren, Angie Ayscue (Andy); Karen Gardner (Buzzy); Wendi Whitley (Timmy); Chris Hinton; 5 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Hickory Rock Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday November 30, 2013 with the Rev. Stuart Lamkin and the Rev. Jack Sammons officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to White Level Lions Club, 334 Wood Road, Louisburg, NC 27549 or Hickory Rock Baptist Church, 1900 Fire Tower Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.
