BJ, as he was affectionately known, was born and raised in Blackstone, VA, spent several years in South Boston, VA and lived most of his adult life in Richmond, VA. He retired from Universal Leaf Corporation after 25 years in accounting/bookkeeping. He later volunteered for 13 years at McGuire's Veterans Hospital and several years at his church, Reveille United Methodist.

BJ was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Dean Crowder, and five brothers and sisters. He is survived by two sisters, Dola Mayo of Richmond, VA and Rachel Patterson of Augusta, GA.

BJ is remembered for his gift with numbers, skill with crossword puzzles, a wicked sense of humor, a heart for God, and a deep love for his family.

He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Deana (Rick) Tredinnick of Oak Hill, VA and Kay Crowder (Tom Bean) of Louisburg, NC; and five grandchildren: Todd and Kay Ann Bean and Richard, James and Sarah Tredinnick.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Reveille United Methodist Church in Richmond on Tuesday, December 9, at 12:30 pm.
