Ms. Ayscue was born February 25, 1930, in Wake Co., to William Zollie and Beatrice Jones Moore. She was a proud graduate, at the top of her class, of Park View Nursing School in Rocky Mount. Ms. Ayscue worked as a registered nurse for over forty years, in Halifax and surrounding counties. Dedicated to the end, she has donated her body to the Brody School of Medicine, Greenville. She was a great cook, had a green thumb, and made beautiful quilts. Ernestine was an avid reader and enjoyed talking about books and current events with her family. She also loved her dogs, cats, and bird watching.

She is predeceased by her parents, and her sisters, Evelyn Moore Kitchen, Mattie Frances Moore Jones, and Camilla Moore Baisey.

She is survived by her children, James Clifford "Cliff" Ayscue, Jr. and Martha Kelly Ayscue; two grandchildren, Lydia Grace Howard and her husband, Brandon, and Travis Michael Dickens. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, and her little dog, Dixie.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2016, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 11:00 am, both at Garrett Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Golden Living Nursing Center of Tarboro, and to Asera Care Hospice, of Winterville, for their compassionate care.
