VERNON L. SAWYER

LOUISBURG - Vernon L. Sawyer, 86, died Monday night, March 26, 2018 at Louisburg Nursing Center. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, at New Hope Christian Church, with the Rev. Steve Barham officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial will be held in the church cemetery.

He was the son of the late Harley and Elva L. Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean D. Sawyer; sisters, Nell Sawyer and Ina Shipman.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran and a member of New Hope Christian Church. He was a founding member of the Bunn Rescue Squad in the early 1970's.

Surviving: his son, Mike (Bonnie) Sawyer; daughter, Rebekah S. Janes; sisters, Irene Matheson and Lillian McGregor; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Christian Church, 2793 NC 98 Hwy. W., Louisburg, NC 27549.
