LOUISBURG--Rex Allen Girton of Louisburg died Thursday, June 28, 2018. He was married on March 9, 1957 at Millbrook Methodist Church to surviving wife of 61 years, Barbara Linker Girton.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are a son, Douglas Allen Girton and wife Linda Grady Girton of Louisburg; daughters, Melony Girton and husband Rob Draxinger of Raleigh, Wanda Carol Metzinger and husband James Metzinger of Louisburg; brother, David Wallace Girton of Georgia; six grandchildren: Jennifer Turnage and husband Chris Turnage, Melissa O'Neal and husband Wallace O'Neal, Jimmy Metzinger and Hana Metzinger, Alexandria Denton Thorne and husband George Thorne, Dalton Denton; and eight great-grandchildren. Youngest daughter, Karen Elaine Denton, died in 2007.

Rex graduated from Millbrook High School. He was a Boy Scout, Eagle Scout and in the Order of the Arrow. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 203 for 7 years, sponsored by Millbrook United Methodist Church. He became a Master Mason, serving as Master of James B. Green Lodge, member of York Rite, Scottish Rite, Sudan Temple, and 32 Degree Mason. He was a Certified Lecturer for 25 years, District Deputy Grand Lecturer, Past District Deputy Grand Master, and Certified Lecturer Emeritus, and a member of James A. Johnson Lodge upon moving to Louisburg.

He served as Worthy Patron in Millbrook OES Chapter, James B. Green OES Chapter and William B. Barrow OES Chapter in Louisburg two times. He was a licensed State Contractor, craftsman in woodwork, stones, stained glass and an avid ritualist. He loved fishing. A devoted member of Bunn United Methodist Church from 1982, he served as a Trustee and was responsible for the acolyte and ushers for years.

A private family cremation service is to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bunn United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 142, Bunn, NC 27508. A life of giving and serving, his wish for his body to be used in the study of medical science is honored so someone else may benefit as we have from the gifts of others through God, our Fraternal Heavenly Father.
