DOROTHY GUPTON WILKINSON

OXFORD, NC -- Dorothy Gupton Wilkinson, 96, a resident of Granville County, passed away at Duke University Medical Center on November 2, 2018.

Dorothy was the daughter of the late Theodore R. Gupton and Olive Cheaves Gupton. She was born in Franklin County on August 6, 1922. Dorothy obtained a master's degree from East Carolina University. She married G.P. Wilkinson, Jr. on December 16, 1945. Dorothy was an avid gardener, genealogist, reader, and worked for the Granville County Cooperative Extension Agency for 35 years. In 2013, she was honored and inducted into the Jane S. McKimmon Family and Consumer Sciences Hall of Fame.

Dorothy is survived by her granddaughter, Lauren Victoria Wilkinson; daughter-in-law, Vicki Oakley Wilkinson; grandson, Steven R. Light (Ericka); her great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Sophie Light, as well as nieces and nephews, Theodore R. Currin (Leslie), Thomas L. Currin (Grey), Cynthia M. Currin (John Webb, III) and Timothy D. Currin (Brenda), along with many grandnieces and nephews, in addition to numerous loving family members and friends, whom will all miss her dearly.

The family would also like to thank her long-time companion and caretaker, Marjorie Harris.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, G. P. Wilkinson, Jr.; her only son, David Scott Wilkinson; and her only sister, Marie G. Currin (Arthur Ray).

A memorial service was held at Hester Baptist Church on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Hensley officiating. The family received friends and family at Hester Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Monday, November 5, 2018.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Granville County Library for the N.C. Room or to the Shriner's Hospital in memory of Dorothy G. Wilkinson. Flowers are accepted and appreciated.

The Wilkinson Family is under the care of Gentry-Newell & Vaughn Funeral Home of Oxford.
