GERALD E. “JERRY” MITCHELL
WAKE FOREST - Gerald E. “Jerry” Mitchell, 68, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 in Durham Regional Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at the Grace Haven Baptist Fellowship property on Hicks Road in Youngsville, with interment following at the Youngsville cemetery.

He was born in Raleigh and grew up and attended school in Youngsville. He was the son of the late Wiley F. Mitchell, who was for many years superintendent of Franklin County Schools, and the late Irene Edwards Mitchell. He was an avid athlete and basketball star who helped lead the Youngsville High School team to its first state championship in 1956.

Mr. Mitchell taught and coached basketball at Stoneville High School and later at Raleigh’s Enloe High School. He founded Business and Estate Analysis, a financial services company located in Raleigh, and earned the distinction of becoming both a Certified Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Consultant.

Surviving: his wife, Terri Crow Mitchell; daughters, Cody Mitchell, Meredith Mitchell Barringer (Chris) of Wake Forest, and Megan Mitchell of Milwaukee, Wisc.; brothers, Wiley F. Mitchell Jr. (Marshale) of Virginia Beach, Va., John F. Mitchell (Stephanie) of Raleigh; sisters, Nancy Mitchell Mattox (Jimmie) of Winston-Salem and Carol Mitchell Pittman (John) of Duluth, Ga.; 14 nieces and nine nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Wake Forest Birthplace Society Museum, P. O. Box 494, Wake Forest, NC 27588; to the Grace Haven Baptist Fellowship Building Fund, P. O. Box 1432, Wake Forest, NC 27588, or to Wake Forest University.
