DORIS B. STURDIVANT

CASTALIA - Doris Bowden Sturdivant of Cedar Rock died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007 at the age of 82 at Louisburg Nursing Center. She was born December 10, 1924 to the late Edgar G. Bowden and Eula Mann Parham. She grew up on a farm in Nash County.

In 1946, she married Walter Maurice Sturdivant and moved to Cedar Rock where she raised two children and was an active member of the community and a devoted member of Cedar Rock First Baptist Church. At the age of 52, after her husband’s death, Doris went to school and became a nursing assistant. She worked at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Louisburg (now Franklin Regional Medical Center) until she retired. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all six sisters and brothers.

Surviving are her son, Carlton Maurice Sturdivant of Louisburg; daughter, Frances S. McKay and husband, Jim of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Walter Robert Low and wife, Abbey of Clayton and Jeannette Marie Low of Raleigh; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Savannah Low of Clayton; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Lancaster Funerals and Cremations, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, on Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cedar Rock First Baptist Church on NC Highway 56 E, with the Rev. Mike Underwood and the Rev. Jack Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Cedar Rock First Baptist Church, 4879 NC Hwy. 56 E., Castalia, NC 27816.
