DONALD JOSEPH BATES

LOUISBURG, NC - Donald Joseph Bates, 81, of 213 Hidden Forest Road, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Wake Medical Center. He was born in Tupper Lake, NY, the son of the late Arthur and Alice Girard Bates, and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Europe during WWII.

Services were held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, December 7, 2007 at Leah’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bates is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty LaBarge Bates; children, Brent A. Bates of Plattsburgh, NY, Beth B. Ashline of Louisburg, Rev. Bonnie Bates & her husband Steve Vulcheff of Madrid, NY, and Joseph Bates of Bloomingdale, NY; grandchildren, Rose M. Ashline, Molly E. Ashline, Sam Vulcheff, Angela Bates, Alicia Bates and Kristin Bates; great-grandchildren, J. Kiel Vulcheff and Savannah Bates; sister, Audrey Delair of Tupper Lake, NY. He was preceded in death by his son, Brad A. Bates; grandsons, John Steven Vulcheff, Kiel Edward Vulcheff and Christopher Ashline.

Memorial contributions may be made to Leah’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 50 Promise Land Road, Louisburg, NC 27549; Lake Clear Fundship, Girl Scouts of North Eastern New York, 323 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901; or to Natural History Museum of Adirondacks, Tupper Lake, NY.
