FRANKLINTON - Samuel Howard Collins Sr., 78, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Saturday, Feb. 23) at Fairview Cemetery, Franklinton.

He was born to the late Johnny Jones and Bessie Fowler Collins. He was a graduate of Franklinton High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953. He was a barber in Roanoke Rapids until he joined the N. C. Highway Patrol in 1955, working in Smithfield, Wilson, Raleigh and Louisburg until his retirement in 1985.

Brothers Johnny Jones Jr., Norris Wilson, Sidney Thomas and William Franklin Collins, and a sister, Margaret Grace Laughter, preceded him in death.

Surviving: his wife, Affie Mae Pickett Collins of the home; four children, Judith Ann Collins of Emerald Isle, Nancy Collins Renn (Allen) of Wake Forest, Linda Collins Paul (Alvil) of Wilson, Samuel Collins Jr. (Tammy) of Cary and Emerald Isle; sister, Clara Collins Choplin of Burgaw; brother, Joe David Collins of Franklinton; and eight grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklinton Masonic Lodge #123, Mason St., Franklinton, NC 27525.
