I almost did not make it to the last Mid-Week Community Service of prayer and devotion at Benson Chapel of Louisburg College, sponsored by the Inter-Church Council of Louisburg.
As people of all denominations, gathered and began to prepare hearts and minds for worship, I felt so blessed with a warm feeling of belonging, a feeling that not everybody can claim, as there is so much suffering, sickness, and lack of faith that there is a God that can make things better.

FRANKLINTON -- Franklinton made a bit of history Thursday, but it had nothing to do with their Northern Carolina Conference track and field victory over Northwest Halifax.
Instead, the day will be remembered for the first high school event staged at the new FHS Football Field. A middle school meet had been held at FHS last week.

BUNN -- One streak ended and other continued during Tuesday’s action at the annual The Franklin Times Franklin County Middle School Track and Field Championships at Bunn High School.
Cedar Creek’s five-year reign atop the boys standings came to a close as Bunn Middle erupted to 55 points to edge the Jaguars, who closed with 50 points.

LOUISBURG -- After falling at Bunn just eight days ago, Louisburg was hoping for a better fate during Thursday’s Northern Carolina Conference fast-pitch rematch at the LHS Softball Complex.
But it wasn’t to be, as Bunn wrapped up the season series between the clubs with a 17-0 decision.
BHS, coached by Melanie Lovin, has continued to improve as the season progresses. Bunn is now 6-8 overall and 6-3 in the NCC, and the Ladycats have won six of their last eight contests.

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Montrel Cooke didn’t miss a step following a highly decorated football season for the Bunn Wildcats.
Days after leading BHS to the Elite Eight of the Class 2-AA State Grid Playoffs as a quarterback, Cooke was back on the basketball court as a senior point guard.

ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Bunn found the historic Chockoyott Country Club to its liking during the first 18-hole round of competition this spring in Northern Carolina Conference golf action.
That was especially true for freshman William Lewis, who carded an amazing 73 to earn medalist honors.
None of Bunn’s scorers shot above 92 as the Wildcats rolled to a convincing 22-shot victory over Roanoke Rapids on March 27.
GIRLS MVP PRECIOUS WALKER, BUNN MIDDLE
ZEBULON -- The Carolina Mudcats dropped an exhibition game with their new parent club, the Cleveland Indians, 13-0 in front of 6,362 on Tuesday afternoon at Five County Stadium.
The game celebrated a new player development agreement between the two as fans got a preview of this year’s team, and saw some jaw-dropping home runs from Indians’ hitters.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Louisburg College’s women’s soccer squad took second place last weekend at the 10-team North Carolina Wesleyan College Spring Fling Tournament.
LC, coached by Andy Stokes, defeated North Carolina Wesleyan, Barton and Methodist while tying Meredith.
The Lady Hurricanes reached the finals before dropping a 1-0 decision against Mt. Olive College.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College’s baseball and softball squads took to the road Wednesday -- and both brought home clutch victories against non-league opponents.
The LC softballers, coached by Don Stopa, finished off a season sweep against College of Albemarle with a 7-2 decision in Elizabeth City.

Again, commissioners were not ready to approve a process by which solar farms can be approved.
But they were clear about one thing — they want to have a significant say in what winds up in Franklin County.
Because of that, the board decided to delay, again, any action on a text amendment that would define the process by which solar farms are considered and approved or denied.

Franklin Commissioners rounded out the board Monday night when they appointed the county’s former long-time Cooperative Extension Service director to the county’s governing board.
By unanimous decision, Cedric Jones was tabbed to fill the District 2 Commission seat vacated by Penny McGhee.
District Court Judge John Davis swore Jones in Monday night.
The Easter Bunny visited Franklin County last weekend — and got a high five from Ray Evans at the Youngsville Library.

Franklin County Commissioners agreed to use a business incentive policy to entice a company to move over the county line.
By unanimous decision, the board agreed to provide Custom Dynamics with a $29,100 incentive over four years if the company meets investment benchmarks by bringing their motorcycle accessory business to the Youngsville area.

FRANKLINTON — A Raleigh man eluded police during a two-county, high-speed chase — but detective work led to an arrest the following day.
Franklinton authorities charged Robert McPherson Bailey with felony eluding arrest, reckless driving to endanger and driving while license revoked.

YOUNGSVILLE — Multiple agencies combined late last week to make roads safer.
As a result, officers in Youngsville and Franklinton and sheriff’s deputies issued nearly 30 citations during a DWI checkpoint on Friday night.
The checkpoint was a Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) effort to keep drunken drivers off the road.

With official action Monday night, the county’s sheriff’s office went to the dogs — and cats.
When former Animal Control Director Graham Stallings decided to step down at the end of March, County Manager Angela Harris went to work to develop a transition plan.
The result was consolidating Animal Control under the umbrella of the sheriff’s office.
GOOD MORNING: Well whatdoyaknow? It’s April already, flowers are blooming, trees are leafing out and just about everyone (me included) is sneezing their head off and suffering from runny noses as a result of the pollen. Spring has sprung, big time.
In fact, it’s been springing for the past several weeks. And right offhand, I can’t recall the last time we experienced such a mild winter as we’ve just gone through.
