GOOD MORNING: The Franklin County Commissioners have called a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday to “discuss revaluation concerns,” but I don’t know if that little room on the second floor of the County Administration Building at 113 Market Street in Louisburg is large enough to hold the number of outraged property owners that are likely to show up or not.

Mason Street, Franklinton, died Wednesday Feb. 29, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center.   Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Mertie Walters Montgomery and John Swanson Montgomery.  She was a homemaker and member of Friendly Baptist Church in Bethlehem, NC.

YOUNGSVILLE — John Efrem Noveck of Youngsville passed away on February 28, 2012 at his home.  He was born on April 10, 1924 to the late Efren F. Noveck & Audotia Protasena Noveck in New Britain, CT. He graduated from New Britain High School in 1942, and from 1943-1946 he served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.

FRANKLINTON — Richard Golightly, 90, of Franklinton, passed away on February 29, 2012 at Franklin Oaks, Louisburg.  He was born in Easley, SC to the late Charlie V. Golightly and Mary Edith Sentell Golightly. He retired from Burlington Industries after 42 years of service and later worked until the age of 89 with H&R Block. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a lifelong member of Franklinton United Methodist Church.

The latest event was held Tuesday night at the Taylor Center, and Roger Taylor himself was on hand to present medals to 103 students.

LOUISBURG -- Challengers have been few for the Louisburg College Lady Hurricanes during the acclaim filled 2011-12 basketball campaign.
So LC head coach Brett Vana has taken it upon himself to challenge his club with a variety of goals.
One of them was achieved Tuesday as Louisburg wrapped up the Region X regular season championship with a 77-32 decision over Wake Tech Community College.

Franklinton off to hot start in boys tennis
FRANKLINTON -- Franklinton’s boys tennis team entered the regular season with lofty hopes and dreams, and nothing happened in the first week of play to dispel those expectations.
Instead, FHS tangled with two long-time Northern Carolina Conference powers and earned victories.
Monday, Franklinton opened with an impressive 6-3 decision over defending NCC champion Roanoke Rapids.

LOUISBURG -- When Mike McGuire finished off his bountiful recruiting class, he knew some difficult decisions would have to be made regarding playing time -- especially in the all-important Region X matchups.
McGuire, in his first year at LC, has used the Hurricanes’ non-league games as a lineup barometer for the region schedule, which begins next weekend with a four-game series at rival Pitt Community College.

Residents displeased with their revaluation notices have the option of appealing to commissioners down the line.
But instead of waiting, commissioners have decided to jump into the fray, scheduling a special-called meeting this coming Monday to discuss revaluation concerns.
Commission Chair Shane Mitchell said he met with staff on Monday and after putting out feelers to commissioners, decided to call a meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 5 at the Franklin County Administration Building, 113 Market Street, Louisburg.

The spirit of support, though, never wavered as the community came together to help a wife who lost her husband and kids who lost their dad.
Neighbors, friends and those who never met R.J. Horne turned out for a community yard sale and chicken plate sale, with money benefiting Horne’s widow, Brooke, and their two sons, ages 5 and 2.
