LHS Falls To Northwest Halifax
LOUISBURG -- Despite competing without five suspended players -- and having no chance to make the postseason -- the Northwest Halifax Vikings still competed like a football team on a mission Friday against host Louisburg.
After LHS had taken an early advantage, the Vikings reeled off 22 unanswered points and went on to defeat the Warriors 28-16 in the Northern Carolina Conference opener for each club at historic Patterson Field.

KENLY -- A victory at North Johnston helped vault Bunn to a wealth of success during the second half of the 2010 football season -- and deep into the playoffs.

STANHOPE -- Southern Nash didn’t prove to be a hospitable host when the Ladybirds stepped out of league action Monday to entertain the Franklinton Lady Rams at the picturesque SNHS Tennis Courts.

ALL SMILES AT EPSOM
ALL SMILES AT EPSOM
Little Addison Wilkins, 4, is all smiles as she gets ready to try out the inflatable slide at the Epsom Fireman’s Day celebration last Saturday — and she pronounced the slide a lot of fun. There was good food, a lot of activities for kids and a series of games that tested the skills of firemen. A photo feature of the fireman games is planned for the Saturday edition of The Franklin Times.

THAT’S NO MICROWAVE
THAT’S NO MICROWAVE
Although the Justice Tractor Show is about tractors, it’s not just about tractors as evidenced by this photo. Dr. Peggy McGhee, a retired local educator, turns a rack of ribs she is cooking alongside an open fire at last weekend’s tractor show. An avid collector of vintage kitchen items, Dr. McGhee was demonstrating how cooking was done long before microwave ovens.

Clean renewable energy in Franklin County
Clean renewable energy in Franklin County
I had the opportunity to start my discussion with Chad Ray of Ray Family Farms while he unloaded Snap Pea leaves where the chickens congregated.
“Nothing wasted,” he told me.  I learned of his new plans to install a solar panel PV system atop his barn while riding with him as he tilled different areas of his farm.

Something unusual and interesting happened Sunday as the 9/11 memorial services unfolded across Franklin County.
Originally, we thought the ceremonies would be a memorial service to those nearly 3,000 innocent victims who were killed that terrible morning and the thousands who have died since fighting terrorism in far-off parts of the world.

Obama is just a typical politician
I would like to respond to the article submitted by Julet Marshall on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 concerning President Obama. First of all, if you are going to tell something, then you need to tell the truth. First of all, Obama isn’t black, he is biracial.
