Cell tower hearing descends into chaos
Cell tower hearing descends into chaos

LOUISBURG -- Franklin County's commission meeting played out like an episode of law and disorder as chaos reigned -- resulting in one person being removed from the hearing.
And it turned into three-parter after commissioners agreed to recess the hearing -- for a second time -- to give an opponent of a proposed cell phone tower more time to introduce an expert witness.

LOUISBURG -- During a joint meeting with the Franklin County Board of Eduction Tuesday night, the county commissioners came face-to-face with the increasing cost of educating local children -- and the price tag was huge.

LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg Town Council worked its way through a long, relatively routine agenda Monday night with many of the items growth related.
The main hiccup was indecision about where to hold future council meetings, a topic that has been a bone of contention at some recent meetings as well.

Having fun in Bunn with a wise little owl
Having fun in Bunn with a wise little owl

Although we're just a couple of days from the official first day of fall, it's been more than a little "fallish" outdoors for the last several days.
The scorching temperatures have dropped significantly, the humidity levels have dropped below the sauna-like totals and many of the trees are beginning to seriously shed leaves and some are even showing a hint of color.
Best of all, the weather outside has been perfect for getting outdoors and enjoying whatever you like.

Quasi-judicial matter makes for two quasi crazy meetings
Quasi-judicial matter makes for two quasi crazy meetings

I say this without hyperbole: Monday night's meeting of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners is probably the strangest session I've ever attended.
And, I've been doing this since 1998.
It was already the continuation of an August session that, itself, took about an hour and half to reach no real conclusion.
It included a deputy-escorted ouster of a resident and member of the public.

When are we going to wake up and do something?

Dear editor:
I read The Franklin Times and WOW! County school growth tagged at nearly $100 million.
So, yes, we need the tax dollars, we need the water, we need the sewer, we need so much that Franklin County cannot support at this time. We probably need more birth control.

Is our foreign policy now 'pay for play?'

Dear editor:
As multiple news outlets are now reporting on money from overseas that has been funneled through about 20 shell companies to the Biden Family, you must wonder what services were provided. Members of the Democrat party have stressed that the President did not directly receive any of the over 20 million dollars that have been distributed to at least nine members of the Biden family.

Dems just blame Trump

Dear editor:
Russ Frazier wants to give Joe Biden a break because "with what he inherited, he's doing the best he possibly can at this point."
I suppose a Democrat could get the impression that Biden is doing a good job because the networks ignore Biden scandals while obsessing over Trump's.

Tweeting from a throne

Dear editor:
Trump relieves himself on a gold throne while "tweeting" for money from those who may have none.
He flushes honesty, civility, fair play and rule of law down the toilet drain so they don't block his path toward dictatorship and tyranny ever again.

THE CARDIAC CATS

BUNN -- If ever a team seemed destined to earn a victory, it was the Northern Nash Knights during last Wednesday's Big East Conference boys soccer showdown at Bunn.
But the homestanding Cardiac Cats had other ideas.
Northern controlled the action in the first half and led by two goals at the break -- only to see Bunn rally for a 3-2 victory at the BHS Soccer Complex.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Rocky Mount has been the Big East Conference's girls tennis powerhouse over the past few years -- and the Lady Gryphons have shown little desire to come down from their recent lofty throne.

ONE KILL AWAY

STANHOPE -- Football isn't the only game of inches, as evidenced by Monday's down-to-the-wire volleyball thriller between Louisburg and Southern Nash.
With Louisburg serving at match point in the fifth and deciding set, the Lady Warriors got exactly what they wanted -- an opportunity for senior star outside hitter Chloe Webster to finish the job with yet another thunderous kill.

FHS gets past Jackets

ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Hoyle Field is always considered a difficult place to play, even when the Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets aren't fielding one of their marquee football squads.
The favored Franklinton Red Rams found that out once again last Friday as the Jackets took FHS to the wire before Coach Mo Morris' club delivered a late score to secure a 22-14 triumph in the Big East Conference gridiron opener for both teams.

Wildcats topped at Rocky Mount

ROCKY MOUNT -- Not this time.
That was the theme for the Rocky Mount Gryphons heading into last Friday's gridiron rematch contest -- and Big East Conference opener for both clubs.
Last fall, Bunn had shocked RM in what was considered the Upset of the Year in the league -- and Rocky Mount was bent on not enduring that fate for the second straight campaign.

Former Louisburg educator, Times editor returning for book signing

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- When Joe DeSantis taught English at Louisburg High School, getting students truly engaged in reading was often a long shot.
Now that his first book -- Three Points Shy: The True Story of Seminole High's Quest for the 1989 Florida High School State Basketball Championship -- will be on the school's library shelves, he's hoping that long shot turns more into a layup for students on the fence about picking up a book.
