On Jan. 25, Dep. Garrett Stanly charged Green with six counts of felony cruelty to animals and nine counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

Turns out, they found a way for cats to keep nine of theirs and for dogs to get a new leash on theirs ... as well as an eagle, turtle and any other animals that could use a rescue.
Through Pilots N Paws -- a network that connects pilots and animal rescue groups -- the couple has helped hundreds of animals go from kill shelters to get to their forever homes.

Wave a white flag, bitter cold can be deadly!

The debate last week in Louisburg centered around "white flag shelters" designed to be made available in times of extreme weather to provide some level of comfort to the homeless or those facing extreme situations at their homes.

Obviously, thanks to our usually beautiful, temperate weather, these wouldn't be needed often, only in extreme cold or heat.

Calling a neighbor a Nazi is disturbing

Dear editor:
I am disturbed by how easily someone would call a neighbor a Nazi. This country has thousands of men and women who served in Europe and saw the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis.
I would really have to have indisputable evidence that an individual engaged in the genocide brought on by the Nazi party to bring such a charge.
