JULIA T. STRICKLAND
GARNER - Julia Thornton Strickland, 83, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 21, at Palmer Memorial Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was at Montlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Maude Person Thornton. She was a retired cafeteria manager at Vandora Springs Elementary School.

Surviving: husband, J.D. Strickland; daughters, Gail Strickland Baker of Franklinton and Vickie Strickland Summers of Garner; son, Ronnie G. Strickland of Garner; sisters, Betty Elliott and Ann Stewart, both of Dunn; brother, James “Kirby” Thornton of Sebastian, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, J.C. Thornton, Grace Cramer, J. W. Thornton, Billy Ray Thornton, Marvin G. “Bill” Thornton Jr., and Ethel Denton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
