JOSEPH TATUM LANE
HOLDEN BEACH, NC- Joseph Tatum Lane, 83, died on Aug. 15, 2013.  Born in Columbus County, he was the oldest son of Bennie and Myrtle Cox Lane.  He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Frank, Henry (H.C.), Mitchell; sister, Lillian Leggette; and oldest daughter, Marcella.

Surviving: brother, Carmen Lane of Cary; his wife, Alice White Lane of Holden Beach,; daughters, Pamela Fipps (Bradford)  of Liberty, SC, Regina Dongell (Joe) of Wilmore, Ky.; son, Dwane Lane of Tabor City, and Tammy Watts; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Joe attended Tabor City High School, Southern Wesleyan University, studying Old Testament and Religion; and N.C. State University, studying Electrical and Civil Engineering.  He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran stationed on Guam.  He was former owner and operator of WYRN radio station in Louisburg. He was a founding member of the Louisburg Jaycees and the Louisburg Lions Club.

Funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 17, Old Zion Wesleyan Church, 10144 Swamp Fox Hwy E, Tabor City, with the Rev. Billy Roy, sons-in-law Dr. Bradford Fipps and Dr. Joseph Dongell presiding. Interment followed in church cemetery. 

 In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sharon United Methodist Church, Holden Beach or Old Zion Wesleyan Church, Tabor City.
