L. ELWOOD DORSEY
August 9, 1929 – August 26, 2013
LOUISBURG – Lawrence Elwood Dorsey, 84, of Louisburg, died Monday afternoon.

Elwood was a son of the late Beecher T. and Emily Honeycutt Dorsey. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Beatrice Yvonne Dorsey; infant son, Beecher Gary Dorsey; sisters, Vera Tharrington and Barbara Layton; brother, Talmadge Dorsey.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Bundy officiating. Burial will follow in the Dorsey Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service and other times at the home of Linda and Ray Shearon, 102 Bartholomew Road, Louisburg.

Elwood is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Dorsey; daughters and son-in-law, Yvonne Boseman; Diane and Preston Lovegrove; Angela Nelms; sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence E. “Woody” Dorsey, Jr.; Timothy A. and Tracey Dorsey; Sarah Perez; Krystal and Bobby Critcher; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda Burnette; Linda and Ray Shearon; Jackie and John Parrish; sister-in-law, Frances Dorsey; brother, Sherman Dorsey; grandchildren, Amy, Phillip, Greg, Jenny, Jessica, Kelley, Gary, Gracey, Moranda, LeAnn, Julian, Caleb, Kellan, Sydney; great-grandchildren; Kayla, Brianna, Lauryn, Payton, Amber, Kaitlyn, Kristina, Storm, Summer, Hailey & Kayden; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 3320 US 1 Hwy., Suite B, Franklinton, NC 27525.
