College fall athletic season officially kicked off last Saturday afternoon with a home soccer match as the #2 LC men knocked of ASA College, 1-0, at Ronald L. May Field.

The two teams played to a scoreless first half despite a couple solid chances for the Hurricanes in the opening frame’s final minutes.

The lone goal of the match came off the foot of freshman forward Nikolai Hammer, who was set up by sophomore midfielder Eduardo Alvarez.

Brian Howard got the start in goal, and he earned his first shutout of the 2013 campaign. Howard made two save in a game where Louisburg outshot the Avengers, 16-2.

Louisburg will return to the pitch Friday when the Hurricanes host Monroe College (at May Field.

Opening kick in the non-conference game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
