LHS stops Roanoke Rapids
LOUISBURG -- Louisburg’s Lady Warriors came through with a huge tennis victory last Friday, defeating Roanoke Rapids by a 6-3 margin.

LHS, coached by Johnathan Waugh, claimed four singles and two doubles conquests against its former Northern Carolina Conference rival.

Results from the event were as follows:

• No. 1 Singles -- Peyton Meinson (Roanoke Rapids) def. Victoria Rowe 6-3, 6-2
• No. 2 Singles -- Casey Shellman (Louisburg) def. Kayleigh Sledge 6-4, 6-0
• No. 3 Singles -- Addie Nixon (Roanoke Rapids) def. Catie Strickland 7-5, 6-2
• No. 4 Singles -- Sandy Williams (Louisburg) def. Hailey Kidd 6-2, 6-4
• No. 5 Singles -- Tori Reynolds (Louisburg) def. Emily Burnette 6-1, 6-4
• No. 6 Singles -- Leslie Ruiz (Louisburg) def. Allison Man 6-3, 1-6 (10-5)
• No. 1 Doubles -- Meinson-Sledge (Roanoke Rapids) def. Rowe-Shellman 8-4
• No. 2 Doubles -- Strickland-Reynols (Louisburg) def. Nixon-Kidd 8-4
• Williams-Ruiz (Louisburg) def. Burnette-Man 8-3

BHS SPIKE: Bunn High School’s volleyball squad improved to 3-0 early in the campaign with a non-league victory last Thursday at Princeton.

Taking on one of the area’s top Class 1-A powers, the Ladycats roared to a 25-11, 22-25, 25-13 and 25-19 conquest.

“I was impressed,’’ said BHS head coach Henry Jones. “We played well against a very good team.’’

Bunn delivered one of the best serving matches in history, going 88-of-90 from the stripe.

Tainasha Vines (26-of-26), Destini Davis (13-of-13), Jayla Cofield (12-of-12) and Jaden Richards (11-of-11) were among BHS’ service leaders.

Vines led Bunn in kills with 37, followed by Cofield (10) and Davis (7). Vines also came through with 14 points.

Setters Haley Dickerson (12) and Kristy Green (8) combines for 20 assists.

“Our serving was amazing,’’ Jones said. “It just makes things so much easier when you are serving well.’’

Bunn will have a key Northern Carolina Conference match today at home against the Franklinton Lady Rams.

FHS TENNIS: Franklinton won five of the six singles matches and went on to defeat Louisburg by a 7-2 tally on Tuesday in a non-league girls tennis event.

• No. 5 Singles -- Britney Morris (Franklinton) def. Tori Reynolds 6-4, 6-4
• No. 6 Singles -- Daisha Jones (Franklinton) def. Leslie Ruiz 6-0, 6-2
