Canes split weekend series
LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg College softball team split a weekend series with USC-Sumter as the Lady Canes took game one on Sunday, 2-0, but fell, 2-1, in the series finale. 

Megon Smith earned the mound win in game one, improving her season record to 8-6.

The freshman threw all seven innings where she spread out four Fire Ant hits, all while striking out five Sumter batters.

Jennifer Allison took the loss in game two as the Lady Canes outhit the Ants 7-5.

Allison (6-4) only surrendered five hits and both runs were unearned.

Allison swung the bat well in game one as she went 2-3 and scored one run.

Rebecca Norwood got the big hit in the conference win as she blasted a two-run double in the sixth stanza.

Smith and third baseman Megan Johnson provided most of the LC offense in game two as Smith went 2-4 with an RBI, while Johnson went 2-3.

LAST SATURDAY: The Lady Canes softball team picked up a conference split last Saturday afternoon, as they were downed 2-0 in game one of their doubleheader with USC-Sumter.

But the bats came alive in game two as LC knocked off the Fire Ants, 8-0. 

Megon Smith got the start in game one and took the loss.

The only runs of the game came in the first inning as USCS’s Danielle Reeves hit a two-run homer.

Smith only allowed the two runs on six total hits and she fanned six Ants hitters.

First baseman Jennifer Allison was the top hitter in the game for the Lady Canes as she went 2-3, while shortstop Kim Mobley went 1-2 with a double.

Allison was the player of the game in game two’s win as she threw a no-hitter from the circle and went 2-3 at the plate.

The frosh also scored a pair of runs and hit a two run bomb in the fourth inning.

Smith also hit a two-run homer in game two and finished at 2-3, drove in three RBI and also smacked a double.

Sierra McLaren and Mobley were perfect at the plate in game two as McLaren went 3-3, while Mobley was 2-2, with a walk.

LC will be on the road this Saturday and Sunday for a weekend series at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina.
