YOUNGSVILLE -- Deputies arrested a man on an attempted murder charge following an apparent domestic dispute.
The evening of Dec. 28, deputies responded to a home in the 100 block of Beechwood Drive near Youngsville to find Robert Plemons suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
They seized a .45-caliber handgun and arrested Plemon's stepson, Steven Stevenson, charging him with attempted first degree murder.
"We're in the early stages of the investigation," said Franklin County Sheriff's Chief of Staff Terry Wright.
"It appears that it was an ongoing family dispute that ended in gunfire."
Stevenson, 44, was taken into custody.
Plemons was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh where he was still being treated for injuries at press time.
According to authorities, Stevenson's mother was believed to be at the home during the incident, but no one else was injured.
The gun, which investigators said belonged to Plemons, was believed to have only been fired once.
There was no evidence that alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.
Stevenson was placed in the Franklin County Jail with no bond.
It was not immediately clear when he would next appear in court.
