BARBARA JEAN SNEED LYON

STATE ROAD, NC--Barbara Jean Sneed Lyon, 78, widow of Orrion Alva Lyon, died at her home on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015. Born in Surry County, NC to the late Claude Jefferson and Lexie Walters Sneed, she earned a degree from Surry Community College. She taught adult education for the Wilkes and Surry Community Colleges (sewing) for several years. She later worked as a Counselor for Women's Correctional Facility in Charlotte and later as a Counselor for the Wilkes County Group Home for the developmentally disabled.

Barbara was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends from Noon until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, with the funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. John Attaway will officiate; interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving: daughters, Kaye (Gurney) Reavis and Jennifer and Norman Garris, of State Road; sons Michael and the Rev. Jane T. Lyon of Clarksville, Va., and Roderick Gray and Lisa Lyon of Westfield; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
