MILDRED M. BOWERS

LOUISBURG - Mildred Murphy Bowers, 86, moved on to Heaven on March 2, 2015 at Transitions Life-C are in Raleigh, NC surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 1, 1928 in Louisburg, NC to Louise Yarborough Parrish and Percy Gray Murphy, Sr. Mildred attended Gold Sand High School. And upon her graduation, she worked as a secretary at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. Later in life she became the secretary of Gold Sand High School and retired from the Franklin County School system in 1989.

She married Forrest Edwin Bowers of Shelby, NC in 1947, and they had three children. Mildred was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and enjoyed arts and crafts and traveling.

Surviving her are her son, Randy Gray Bowers and wife, Ellen of Ormond Beach, Florida; her daughter, Betty Bowers Walters and husband, Eric of Orrum, NC, and her younger son, Edwin Dale Bowers and wife, Pam of Henderson, Nevada.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Anthony Gray Bowers and wife, Linda of Daytona Beach, Florida; Holly Walters Byrd and husband, Jeremy of Leland, NC; Daniel Eric Walters and wife, Hannah of Wilmington, NC; Joseph Edwin Walters of Wilmington, NC; Andrew Forrest Bowers and Kimberly Lorraine Bowers of Henderson, Nevada; and six great-grandchildren, Sara Bowers of Daytona Beach, Florida; Cole and Caitlin Byrd of Leland, NC; and Deacon, Glory, and Shepherd Walters of Wilmington, NC.

Mildred has one surviving brother, Percy Gray Murphy, Jr. and wife, Sally of Louisburg, NC, and a sister-in-law, Mary Murphy of Louisburg, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Bowers, a brother Robert Jefferson Murphy of Louisburg, NC, and her parents.

The memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Dustin Mace officiating. The family will receive friends and family following the graveside service at Lancaster Memorial Park in Louisburg, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Mt. Zion Baptist Church for the "Ecuador Mission Team Fund," 111 Laurel Mill Road, Louisburg, NC 27549 or to Living Word Church for the "Honduras Mission Team Fund,"P.O. Box 385, Chadbourn, NC 28431.
