JOHNNY H. ALFORD
June 14, 1930 - February 7, 2016

On Sunday morning February 7th Johnny Alford, 85, passed on to be with the Lord and family members who proceeded him in death. Johnny will be missed by many that knew him as a Coach, Teacher, Principal, Faithful Friend, Family Member and Fellow Christian. He loved everyone, but especially "Young People". Many have already asked, "What can they do?" The best thing you could do for him would be to love the youth in your communities, lift them up all you can to help them be successful in life.

Johnny Alford is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judith Stallings Alford; and by his sons, Chris H. Alford and Jan S. Alford and wife Teresa; and special grandchildren, Jason Alford and wife BrieAnna of Pilot and Stephanie Alford, of Apex; and brother, Cloyce B. Alford of Raleigh.

He was born in Franklin County and was preceded in death by his parents, Zollie Floyd Alford and Lala Batchelor Alford; and two brothers, Shelby F. Alford and James B. "Hoss" Alford; and sister Dorothy Alford Batton.

Mr. Alford was a graduate of Bunn High School, Campbell Junior College, Wake Forest College, and East Carolina College. He was a teacher and coach at Bunn High School and served as Principal at Edward Best High School, Wakelon High School, Zebulon Elementary School, and Bunn High School. After his retirement he worked in real estate with Olde Heritage Realty and Howard Perry & Walston Realty. He served eight years on the Franklin County Board of Education. He was active in Pilot Baptist Church, having served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School Director, teacher, many committees and member of the choir for 60 years. He was a member of the Zebulon Lions Club and a Charter Member of Pilot Lions Club. Over the years he served as President three times, Board of Directors, Secretary and on many committees. He served as Zone Chairman, Deputy District Governor, and Chairman of Boys & Girls Homes for District 31-G and was awarded the International Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services. He also served his country in the U.S. Army. His favorite hobbies were playing golf and following the Bunn High School Athletic Teams.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 o'clock Wednesday at Pilot Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Alford Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Pilot Baptist Church Family Life Center and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bunn High School for the Bob Wheless Scholarship Fund, PO Box 146, Bunn, NC 27508 or Pilot Baptist Church Building Fund, 8103 NC 39 Hwy. S, Zebulon, NC 27597 or Bunn High Booster Club, PO Box 146, Bunn NC 27508.

Arrangements by Strickland Funeral Home and Crematory, Louisburg.
