OSCAR L. DAVIS, JR.

FAYETTEVILLE--Oscar Lelon Davis Jr., 93, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 following several years of declining health. A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton. A reception to celebrate his life will be held at the Franklinton American Legion Hut following the funeral.

He was born in Gaston County, N.C. to the late Oscar L. Davis Sr. and Ruth Lane Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Wilhelmina Mascari of Asheville and Betty Jo Lee of Shelby; and a brother, Jim Davis of Hickory. He was also predeceased by his wife, Rachel K. Davis of Franklinton.

He was a veteran of WWII, earning many medals and awards. His career was in the textile industry. He was active in civic organizations everywhere he lived.

Surviving: one son, Oscar Lelon Davis III (Chip) (Margaret) of Fayetteville; two grandsons, Kevin Andrew Davis (Krista) of Wichita, Kan., and Matthew Lelon Davis (fiancée Caroline Gaona)of Raleigh; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Research Organization, Cancer Fund or charity of one's choice.
