HAROLD WINSTON SMITH, JR.

RED BUD COMMUNITY--Harold Winston Smith, Jr., 60, of the Red Bud Community, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. He was born on January 14, 1958, in Rocky Mount. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold W. Smith, Sr.; two baby sisters, Mary Williamson Smith and Margaret Christina Smith, both of Portsmouth, VA; and Grandparents, Mozelle and Percy Smith, Sr.

"Winston,"as he was known by all, spent some time in the Army National Guard. He was a professional truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. He also worked in the logging industry, and he was in security for a few years. He graduated from Edward Best in 1976. He lived with his Grandmother, Mozelle Smith (Ma-Ma), most of his life. He loved her so much and she did a great job of raising him in a loving Christian home.

He is survived by the love of his life, Gail Pleasants; his son, Evan Winston Smith, of the Wood Community; two stepsons, Daniel Sharpe and his wife Becki, Jacob Sharpe and his wife Jenny; two grandsons, Jason and Benjamin; Winston's stepmother, Lona Saxon Smith, of Savannah, GA; sisters, Brenda Rose Hawkins of Plant City, FL, Charlotte Jenny Quinn of Savannah, GA, Wanda Leggett of Rocky Mount, NC, Sharon Jernigan of Greenville, NC; one brother, Michael Glenn Smith, of Williamston, NC; and his cousin, Barbara Carol Foster-Bartholomew, who was every bit a sister to him, as well as many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, who also loved him very much.

The family received friends on Sunday, July 8, at 3:00 pm. A memorial service followed at 4:00 pm at Red Bud Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Red Bud Baptist Church Building Fund.

Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC 27549. Online condolences may be made to www.lancasterfcs.com.
