RUBY MAE PIKE SHORKEY

HENDERSON--Ruby Mae Pike Shorkey, 100, of Henderson passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, September 20, 2018. She was born on October 6, 1917 to the late James and Edith Heath Pike. Ruby always saw the beauty in everything around her. She loved to play the piano and cook for her family; her specialties being beef stew and cookies. Her children had the privilege of being "raised right" by a true southern Christian lady. She was the oldest living member of Perry's Chapel Baptist Church where she loved to sing.

Ruby's family received friends on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Perry's Chapel Baptist Church in Franklinton with service following at 3:00 pm. Burial followed in the Perry's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Sandra Shorkey and husband Chris Neve, and Mary and Ed Tanner; sons, Doctors Dan and wife Lucy Chartier, and Jim and Ricki Shorkey; sisters, Lottie Smith and Lummie Faulkenberry; sister-in-law, Genora Pike; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, consider contributions to The Senior Citizens Home of Henderson at 2275 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson, NC 27536 or Perry's Chapel Baptist Church at 894 Perry's Chapel Church Road, Franklinton, NC 27525. Online condolences may be made to www.lancasterfcs.com.
